Fanning the Flames

Traveling through Ecuador we were struck by the number of people we saw patiently fanning cooking pots with these woven palm fans. After we purchased a few dozen in the market in Quito we found out why. The triangular shape directs the perfect amount of wind  to your fire.

We immediatley thought:  The Weber grill!

The “Shoney’s Big Boyish” scene depicted above was outside of a Fritadas Amazonas shop on the road between Quito & Otavalo. Fritadas Amazonas is a local speciality of pork meat cooked in it’s own fat with a few other (apparently) secret ingredients . We aren’t exactly sure what is in it.

But we do have a few of the fans still available in the shop. Get thee a’grillin’!
