Here is what Liz says about her process:

“I started experimenting with jewelry a little over a year ago having been inspired by my Mother who had been an artist all of her life. She had recently passed away and my son had just been diagnosed with colon cancer. Creating jewelry was a way to channel her memory and provide some solace in my life during a dark time. When I looked at materials I wanted to work with, I decided to work with a media that was fun and colorful and reminded me of my son’s childhood, Legos. They are available today in so many wonderful colors and shapes. While many people have made jewelry from Legos, I have attempted to elevate these pieces unlike what is available today. I sandblast the majority of my Lego bricks to create a matte finish and many are finished with bezels in a variety of metals. I love working with different media experimenting with everything from plastic Lego bricks, previously mentioned, to cork and concrete. I am mainly self-taught as there isn’t much instruction available in some of my chosen media. However, I have taken some metal-smithing classes from Tom Lorio to improve my craft. I was selected this year to exhibit my work at the RAW artists event in New Orleans, LA. All of my jewelry is handmade in my studio at N the Art Space in Baton Rouge.”

We will be hosting Liz on Small Business Saturday during the hours of our Holiday Season Open House from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. November 29th. Stop by for cup of cider and meet Liz. You can peruse all of our special christmas offerings.
